I am telling you this because I played oboe , clarinet and bass clarinet. at home I would play and practise by myself about five hours a day because I was really into it but with no lessons. ( mistake ) because you just play easy stuff and stay at one level. Self teaching is definitely the long way to go about it. If you can afford it it would really help to get some lessons. A few lessons will help you to avoid learning or continuing bad techniques, and will make the whole process a lot quicker for you.If you cant get lessons........... then its just practise practise practise.
