What instrument should i learn to play?

Hanna W asked:

I mean, i really want to learn how to play the piano, but are there any other great instruments like the piano?

and if not, i also love drums, but someitmes they might get too loud. I already know how to play cello and violin. Do you guys have any good interests?

Learn to play the sax, it goes good with anything.

  • Tina:

    oboe or guitar

  • Nina:

How about the guitar, it’s such a cool instrument!!

  • Sanel T:

learn the flute it is beast

  • horrificated:

If you know how to play Cello and Violin, go for Guitar. The simplicity of writing material and playing material is surprising, and you can move your knowledge of Cello and Violin to Guitar very easily.

Piano is a great instrument to learn. And if you plan on getting more involved in music, knowing how to play the piano will definitely help you there!

Drums are neat because you get to learn different rhythmic patterns and such.

Go with your initial interests and see if that’s where you want to go. If not, then try considering other instruments in different fields, e.g. wind, brass, other string, etc.

Have fun most of all with whatever you end up doing!!

Everyone should start with piano. It will teach you everything about music. You can apply that knowledge to any other instrument. It is also one of the very few instruments that can play chords and scales at the same time.

piano gets annoying after a while

  • naknak:

i play the piano, and i like it a lot, but i’ve always wanted to learn how to play the drums too:) i have a lot of friends who have guitars, but maybe you’re tired of all the string instuments. what about a flute? or even a trumpet, although those look really heavy.

  • Arthur A:

I would have to say the guitar or the piano because if you sing there both nice instruments to accompany yourself on, or just to play music.

  • venom9400:

    play guitar

  • Nintendouche:

    French horn

takes about 20years to learn to play

    Hi Hanna

First, you have to love the instrument that you intend to learn or pick up. What is the use of wasting energy on an instrument that you may drop downthe line ?

If you play cello and violin, it would be logical to pick up a complimentary instrument like piano.

    ….my 2 cents :-)

Try the harpsichord. Its like a piano but more original. or an accordion. no really its a cool instrument and it uses skills like a piano. plus you can rock out some hard core weird AL music. just kidding.

I play the Harmonica, not as well as John Popper but more on the level with The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
this really is a great starter instrument plus they are small and you can get them in every key. They are great as back-up from rock, blues, and funk, to classic and country.

you can find Honer Harmonicas at any music store, but I like Lee Osker (he was the harmonica player for the band War) they have replaceable reeds and a great mouth feel.

  • cbjr:

the tuba can be very fulfilling

  • Lisa:

Two instruments is a lot and you have two very demanding instruments there. I would say piano next, though. Every good musician has some piano skills under their belt. It helps with everything musically. You should also keep up the strings. They’re the best (erm, but I’m biased as I want to make my career playing cello. Hehe)
