    Hi

Here is a good link for all your violin questions and a good site to choose among many good violins depending on your budget.

When you buy a violin, higher price means higher quality. My violin is a Yamaha, I paid about $700 for it, and it is a great violin. Sounds nice, plays nice. My instructor really liked the quality of it. Make sure you get a shoulder rest, though. The Kun brand is the best.

Stay away from ebay and get an instrument from a reliable company. You really can’t get anything decent for less than $200. See:

Most great instruments are hand made and don’t have necessarily nation-wide fame.

My violin doesn’t have a specific famous brand, but cost from the high 1000 to mid 2000 dollars.

It was a cheap price for a violin, but everyone of my teachers have said its sound is great and very nice (even my teacher who threatened to kill me if I messed up again on a 3 Octave Scale).

Overall, you should go with a teacher if you can’t hear the sound yourself.

A really good violin should cost you at least 4000 (unless you find a special one).

I’d suggest a Coda Bow and a Wolf Forte Primo Shoulder Rest (not Kun).
