Can Anyone Tell Me a Good Violin to Buy for a Beginner? Is Ebay Ok?

I’m thinking I might be able to get a good deal on ebay…. if people don’t seem very interested in buying violins.

But maybe buying one new is the best option, and would be more reliable.
I’m not sure.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Ebay is not a good idea. Instead, try one of these:

I would suggest renting a violin until you figure out that playing one is REALLY what you want to do. E-bay is full of people who want to trick you. They could sell you a damaged instrument for all you know. Local instrument shops usually are pretty inexpensive.

NO, EBAY IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO BUY A VIOLIN, PERIOD! Never ever EVER buy an instrument online. You have to see, feel, and play what you are getting, or else you’re very likely to get an instrument that is pure garbage. Go down to your local music store, and rent one until you are sure you want to play seriously. It’s like 20 bucks a month usually, or around there, and sometimes you can rent to own where part of the money you pay for rent goes toward the purchase price of your violin. If you do decide to buy straight away, go to the music store and they can help you find something.

Never buy an instrument sight unseen. It’s too easy for somebody to put a nice picture on their ad, talk up the instrument, then send you a peice of garbage.

I would not buy a violin off eBay. It is too difficult to tell what it actually looks like. You can get a good student violin (beginner) for about $300, or just rent one, to start (many shops have a rent-to-own program), until you decide whether the violin is really for you.

Please read the source articles below. I think you’ll find them very helpful.

Don’t buy a violin on ebay. Go to http://www.sharmusic.com and they’ll tell you all about “violin shaped objects”. Anyways, i would reccomend a Franz Hoffman Prelude, Amadeus, of Maestro. The Maestro is the best, i have it and its versatile-i have played it for 4 years so far in my studies, and couldn’t have asked for more. You could also talk to some violin teachers or your school’s orchestra teacher for some tips on where to buy locally (or rent, sometimes thats the more economical thing to do) :)
