If you can find a teacher that is experienced in teaching older people (young adults) go ahead and enjoy. The reason I say this is that adults learn different than children and the experienced teacher is used to this so there is little frustration when you do not get it the first time. Just do not be afraid to ask questions and try. Have fun and practise. As a teacher of music that teaches many adults I can only say that no you are not too old. Jimmy hendrix was 16 when he started playing the guitar, and he ended up being one of the best. You're only 3 years older than that, and since you have a music history, it will be easier. Considering you have a musical background is a big plus. As a matter of fact, i have observed that adults that take music lessons do even better than children because they have more understanding and passion.
