Does Anyone Have Instructions on How to Make a Cello?
Hi, I really really want to learn to play the cello but I don’t have the cash for it. However, I have access to lots of wood and I know a couple of carpenters. Is it possible to make a cello or is this a horrible idea? Btw, I have no experience with a cello, only guitar, violin, and piano. Does anyone have plans, blueprints, or instructions on how to make this?
Ive read up on those Strobel books, and I am going to attempt to build something smaller first to see if this is possible at all. So, ive decided to build a violin. Does anyone have access to a Stradivari diagram or drawing that I can model my violin upon?

It’s pretty much a horrible idea. But if you must, http://www.amazon.com/Cello-Making-Strobel-Violin-Makers/dp/0962067377
Without the proper tone woods and hard woods, dimensional plans, steam systems, forming jigs, carving tools, etc. You’re in hopelessly over your head. Carpenters aren’t instrument makers, and they’re not going to do your bidding for free.
… go this route and you’ll likely spend $5000.00 on an instrument worth $5.00
Making cellos is a very complex art that requires lots of specialized tools, knowledge about wood, and experience. It is not a do-it-yourself kind of project. If your goal is to play, find a way to make money to buy one. Making money is way easier than making cellos.
The early music shop sell kits for making instruments such as viols and salteries etc. You could see if they have the plans for a ‘cello kit. Defiatley get some advice from an instrument maker not just a carpenter otherwise it will be a disaster.
