You are never too old. That melody would take some work, learning the basic notes and getting a nice tone. Vibrato will help with a nice tone but it is very hard to perfect. ]]> By: Poppy Plastichttp://lessons-for-violin.com/366/is-too-late-for-me-to-learn-how-to-play-a-violin-and-what-about-this-song/#comment-841 Poppy Plastic Fri, 18 Dec 2009 10:36:40 +0000 http://lessons-for-violin.com/366/is-too-late-for-me-to-learn-how-to-play-a-violin-and-what-about-this-song/#comment-841 firstly, no it definitely is not too late. my best pupil is in their late twenties and they have progressed more over the past year and a half than other adults i know who've been playing for 15 years or more. this is because her application is better. the violin is a beautiful instrusment and is worth learning for sure, but what most of my pupils comment on when they've had a few lessons with me is the difficulty of learning it and the dedication it entails. but your passion should benefit your application so that's very good. just as long as it's not a notion to learn the violin! anyways i always insist to my pupils that they shouldn't let their age sicken them and definitely don't be thinking "if i started younger, i'd probably be much better" becuase that isn't always the case as many, many children hate learning the violin when they're younger because of reasons like their parents made them go to lessons, or it was very hard to learn. personally i prefer teaching older people as it is easier to understand the terminology, etc. so starting older may be an advantage for you - plus, you're only twenty it's not like you're 60 lol.and secondly, the piece you refer to. you see, you may be judging its difficulty on what sound that particular violinist makes. their technique is very, very polished and it's evident in their sound that they've been playing a long time. i never listened to the entire piece but from what i heard, it will take you a few years before you can play it. and in addition to that, it would take a bit longer to play it as well as that haha. but don't get disheartened by that! learning the violin may be difficult, frustrating and feels like progress is slow, but the satisfaction that comes with it is brilliant! and looking back on your improvement makes you feel really good. so that piece you're interested in can be one of your goals in the future, but you'll find other pieces that you love as well along the way! so i would definitely recommend learning the violin, but don't start it wondering if it's too late or whatever, cos it's not! make sure your teacher isn't wasting your time or money thoguh. don't feel rude by leaving them if they're not doing a good job. you need someone who enjoys what they're doing, actually wants to help you, and really gets in depth with your technique. like, they need to know EXACTLY what you're doing and know the instrument inside out. if you want any help or advice or anything you can email me;hope that helps, i never shut up though haha. If you are twenty it is not too late to begin learning to play the violin. It is never too late. Especially if you have a passion for music, you should begin learning as soon as you can. Well that melody will be hard for you to play at first, but after you learn the basics, I think with your passion and dedication to music you could master that piece and much more, in little time. :-) Well I started playing the violin when I was 10 years old.
