Not only does a violin not have frets like a guitar, but the bowing ability (as opposed to fingers or a pick) must be a WHOLE other skill set. Plus you can't see the violin fretboard like you can a guitar, so you really have to develop the ability to FEEL if you're in the correct position. It's one of the more difficult string instruments with the bowing and fingering and intonation, etc. It takes most people a few years before they can play real fiddle music. If you were really dedicated, and worked at it, you could probably be pretty good. I just started cello last summer after already playing bass, piano, and harp, and I caught on pretty quickly. It's not too hard if you learn to love the music!
