Well, I am going to give you answer based on my experience…I have only been at it 1.5 yrs. I do not plan to ever be in an orchestra, I just want to be able to play fiddle in the local jam sessions and with friends and family. So based on that, I payed $179 for my first violin and it was Chinese junky…one year of it and I realized I got what I payed for. As soon as I got decent enough to recongnize good sound, I realized that was a big waste of money. My current fiddle I payed $450 for, it is 100 years old made in Germany. I is sooooo much better sounding than my first. I really enjoy it. Now a pro might tell you $100 and higher is what you need to spend for a good violin, but I base it on what I plan to do and how I plan to play.
These prices are for the uk so you will need to convert.
For an entry level violin you will pay between £75.00 and £150.00 bear in mind that these often come with dreadful strings which cost £27.00 to improve (D’addario pro arte are a massive improvement on most factory strings)
If you move up to a better modern instrument at about £350 – £400 you will see a massive improvement. you will not get a decent old one at this price from a reputable dealer.
Sometimes you can get lucky at junk shops.
If I was starting out now, I would buy a cheap one and get it set up properly buy a luthier, then when you are discerning enough then move on and get yourself something nice.
Enjoy the journey.
For a decent beginner violin, I would expect to pay anywhere from 300-700 dollars, but I would never buy a violin online. Go to stores nearby, and I would always recommend bringing a more experienced violinist with you when you shop so you can hear the different tone qualities of each instrument. I have heard instruments that cost thousands of dollars played next to less expensive instruments, and have preferred the latter just because of the sound quality. I would never buy a violin that costs less than 300 dollars because that probably means it is not well made. I know a beginning violinist who bought a 99 dollar violin and was so excited that she found such a great deal until she put it to her chin and parts started falling off.
Usually you have to buy the case separately from the violin, but many stores will discount it with the purchase of the instrument.
As for lessons, they run anywhere from 30-80 dollars for an hour, depending on the teachers credentials and experience. A good place to start looking for teachers (especially if you’re on a tight budget) would be a college or university. Many undergrad music students give lessons for much less than others because they haven’t received their teaching degree yet.
I hope this has helped you, and best of luck!
A beginners violin should cost you around $100 – $500 dollars depending on the make
At your level, a violin around the $300 to $500 price range should work out great. These violins often come with fine tuners on each strings, so it’s easy to tune. The sound is usually pretty bright in these instruments. For the bow and case, $100 (more or less) can do the job.
When you do some serious practice and get better, you’ll need to upgrade your instrument to probably the $800-$1000 price range. If you get really good at playing it, $2000-$4000 should fit you, but that depends on how serious you want to get with the violin.
Hope that helped! ^^
WITHOUT TAX.
200$ – 400$ – Acoustic Violin (Normal)
300$ – 1000$ – Electric Violin (Normal)
Violins do come with cases. And a bow.
My Lesson for an hour is 40$. Half in hour is 19$
I guess playing the guitar could develop a better finger flexibility, and calluses. It could help with sight reading. (Note Reading). But, I suggest you just start Violin. The sooner the better. And Guitar, psh, playing the guitar after playing the violin for 3 years with me was a bit confusing. I kept thinking I was playing the violin, instead of a guitar.
