Don’t worry about it—they hear it all the time! Don’t even muddle it with excuses, just tell him point blank. You might want to get them a card for your last day or even a small gift as a token of appreciation, but not necessary!
Be honest with them about the reasons, and give them a month’s notice.
The way NOT to do it is to tell them a day before they expect to be paid for the next month or worse, just not show up, without any explanation.
