It combines learning the motor skills of bowing with intensive ear training when finding intonation. Since the violin has no frets (bars on the fingerboard which produce exact pitch), all the notes played require a good ear to find. I play many instruments and the violin was the most unique to learn.I firmly believe that you are never too old to learn to play - I have heard players sound incredible after two years (and some that sound horrible after thirty). It will all boil down to the amount of time you can devote to music and the instruments (this will require 1 - 2 hours a day minimum!!).Don't think you can learn any instrument without making it a priority in your life - there is nothing sadder than an unplayed instrument.

Violin is a difficult instrument to play. Try looking for an intructor and start out very simple. Go to a music store and ask for assistance. The size of your violin depends on the length of your arm.Good Luck!

I had some music lessons with the violin at school in the 4th and 5th grade.
