SWING to SURF & BLUES TECHNIQUES for ENSEMBLE & SOLO UKULELE or how you too can become a “Cool hand Uke” Internationally respected Blues & Jazz Multi String Musician & Educator Tj Wheeler will be conducting a workshop teaching techniques to broaden beginner and intermediate ukulele players ability to play Swing to Surf, & Blues music. Participants will learn how to implement these approaches by learning, relatively simple basic, movable chords (many based on the co-relationship of flat 3rds & flat 7ths), that require minimum fingering while still creating a vibrant, swinging and bluesy feel. Both finger style and plectrum approaches, to both solo and ensemble playing, will be explored. Tj will share how he develops single line and chord solos based on what he calls discovering whats already underneath your fingers. The workshop will be 2 & 1/2 hours and will be interactive with students encouraged to bring their ukes of all sizes (soprano, tenor & baritone) as well as audio recorders and note paper. Tj will provide prepared sheet music depicting the lessons fingering for chord forms, progressions and improvisational ideas. Cost will be . Pre-registration is encouraged.
