My Violin Teacher Taught Me How to Play With 3 Fingers Only ?

I had these beginner lessons for violin for a short while. I’ve self taught myself violin and there are pretty much no problem ? I think . Anyways, when I was self teaching myself, I used to play with four fingers . But my teacher only taught me to play with 3 fingers, excluding the pinky . Why is that ? Oh my teacher has alot of experience with the violin and he’s really good . I’m still a beginner though . Thanks XP

How Can I Learn Where to Put My Fingers on My Violin Fingerboard?

I just never seem to know the right place to put my fingers. I have a fingering chart but I don’t seem to be able to produce the right sounds.
The main problem is that there is no violin teacher for miles aroun, so I’m using instructional videos. But how do I know where to put my fingers!
I feel really clumsy.

Can I Learn Violin Without Having to Hurt My Piano Fingers?

I’ve been playing piano since high school and played classical pieces. I’m wondering if my fingers get injured or dexterity loss on piano if I learn to play violin. I expect an advice from a classical pianist. You know, I wont risk my dexterity. If playing violin affects dexterity, then I wouldn’t mind learning it.
Please give me some advise as I’m planning to get a violin next week.

Child With “Mirror Movements” Trying to Play Violin-Help?

This question is for those familiar with mirror movements.
My daughter is 10, and has mirror movements with her hands- basically from birth. We aren’t sure yet of the cause.
Today when she was practicing the violin, I noticed that when she uses her left fingers on the strings her right fingers lift from the bow. Anyone know if this will cause a problem for her learning to play, or how to stop the movements in this situation? I know she can stop it if she focuses on tensing the muscles in the mirroring hand, but with violin it is best not to have a death grip on the bow.
She doesn’t have a violin instructor. There isn’t one in my rural community. I am teaching her myself for now, using videos and such.

Should I Play Viola or Violin?

I’m 13, and I’m interested in learning to play a string instrument in high school next year. I know I want to play violin or viola, but I can’t decide which. What do you think? Please don’t try to convince me to play an instrument that isn’t one of the two above.

I’m sort of leaning toward viola because so many people violin and I’d rather do something a bit more uncommon. Also, I’m very tall and have extremely long fingers, which would help with viola. I have heard that viola music isn’t as good and is harder to come by.

How Do I Go by Getting Started With Playing the Violin?

I am 22 and I’ve always wanted to play the violin. I have been playing the guitar for several years now (so I know a few things about music) but I have never even touched or picked up a violin in my life. I am looking for a good, affordable beginner’s violin that is geared more towards classical music rather than fiddle music. I noticed that there are several different sizes as well. I have smaller-than-average hands with slim fingers. Should I get a smaller size? should I take violin lessons? is it possible at
all to be self-taught with the violin?
