What should I look for when buying my first violin? ?

I really want to learn to play the violin, but i don’t know anything about it and i don’t know anyone personally that plays. It is kinda hard to buy one when you don’t know what to look for. I don’t want to get ripped off, so i need some help. What is a reasonable price range for a full size violin and what should i look for in one as a first time buyer?

Where can I by a good quality violin between 100 and 300 dollars, for my girlfriends first violin?

Taylor B asked:

She’s always wanted to learn to play violin so I’m planning on getting her a violin with a cheap case and a tuner and a learning book and everything she would need to get started…but I’m having trouble finding sites that sell violins within my price range. I don’t know if guitar center would have anything good but I’ll try and look next time I’m there, other than that I’m going to have to buy it online. So does anybody have any websites I could check out or any other advice that would help me? Thanks if you have anything!

How much can I expect to pay for violin lessons?

Kayle M asked:

I have always loved the violin, and now with my first real job, I want to start putting some money away for my first violin and some lessons. I know how much the instrument is going to cost me, but what should I expect as far as paying for lessons? Is it better to go to group lessons, or individual lessons? And what should I look for in an instructor?

Playing the scales on the violin?

Grace asked:

Hi! I had my first violin lesson in 2 years on Thursday, my next one is on Wedsday. My teacher gave me a piece to practice, and told me to practice the scales, especially the b flat scale. When practicing, do you go up one octave or two? Could someone elaborate on playing the scales, and how many are there? (Btw, I’ve heard about the Minor and Major scales, but I don’t know what they mean, so if someone could tell me, that would be super!)
