After piano lessons I saw a violin on display with strings that were golden…. literally. I’m assuming that they were coated in gold? What effect does this have on the strings. Does it give the strings a better/different/worse tune? It was pretty interesting, something straight out of a fairy tale. Are there any notes of composers/musicians that used golden violin strings?

I am nineteen and have been dying to play violin since i was only a child. i ended up taking piano lessons but i really didnt like it so after several years of lessons i know notes and music. I played at the talent show in high school and got second place. I just want to know if it would be possible to take up violin successfully at nineteen considering i have music history.
