Violin Question – What is the best one to learn on?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010
I want to begin taking violin lessons. I have thrown myself in to my education and I am about to graduate college. I have always wanted to learn to play the violin and was wondering what instrument I should get. I see some violins that are selling for 50.00 but I have also heard they are not the best to learn on. What do you think is a good violin? My budget is no more than 300.00

Where can I by a good quality violin between 100 and 300 dollars, for my girlfriends first violin?

Taylor B asked:

She’s always wanted to learn to play violin so I’m planning on getting her a violin with a cheap case and a tuner and a learning book and everything she would need to get started…but I’m having trouble finding sites that sell violins within my price range. I don’t know if guitar center would have anything good but I’ll try and look next time I’m there, other than that I’m going to have to buy it online. So does anybody have any websites I could check out or any other advice that would help me? Thanks if you have anything!

Teach yourself violin? Help?

supermanpj4444 asked:

Ok. I have a violin. But….I have no idea how to play and I cant really afford lessons……

I keep looking online and all I can find is how to tune a violin or the names of the different parts of the violin…I cant find anything that actually shows you how to play

Are there any websites out there where you can learn songs on the violin?

I know the have lots of guitar tabs and stuff for diff songs…..but I cant find any for violins (I’m guessing because violins dont have frets….)

I would like to learn at least one song that I could practice over and over again until I can get lessons….

Any ideas?

Also, to any violinist that might be reading this….got any advice? (Besides the obvious…get lessons…lol)

Could you point me in the right direction for a good quality Violin under or around 100 dollars?

dmgirl13 asked:

When I was younger, I played the violin for a year and eventually “gave up”, because I never practice and felt bad that my mom would pay so much for something I never spent much time on. However, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve regretted this action. So now, I want to buy a violin and self-teach what I learned before, but this time I’m going to not give up.

Anyways, I am by no means planning on being professional or anything, so I want a violin that isn’t incredibly “breach the bank” expensive. Still, I don’t want a crappy violin that goes out of tune every time you play a note, and you end up wanting to throw it against the wall because it’s just downright cheaply made.

I would love a suggestion on a name brand, and especially if you know of an online site that sells violins cheaply (but once again of good quality). I researched this vaguely and found a few people say yay/nay about ebay as well, so please, give me an opinion on that as well. Oh, and I say a hundred dollars, but if this price range is ridiculous for a good quality violin, please say so. Oh, and I want a full size violin, as I’m way too old for the tiny ones nowadays, lol.

Again, please and thank you. :)

(I live in Pensacola, Florida, by the way)
